Invisible: a hard hitting story of personal and spiritual growth

Invisible is the first book in the Mendocino Village series by Ginny L. Yttrup. In a small town of Mendocino in Northern California, three women find their lives intertwined and challenge the hurts they hide behind. Ellyn DeMoss is a chef, cafe owner and an overweight woman. While she sees the good in others, she only sees the worst in herself. When Dr Miles Becker, the handsome widower, shows interest in her, she simply cannot believe it. Who would be attracted to an overweight woman? Sabina Jackson is hiding in Mendocino. She left her husband and young adult daughters behind in Georgia as she comes to heal, or so she says. Heal from what? Twila is a young woman with a troubled past. She is coming out of hiding and working on gaining back all she has lost. Can she figure out the triggers that keep her from reaching her goals?

Invisible is a hard hitting story of personal hurts, grief, guilt and struggles. At the beginning, I could tell this story would be a doozy! This story blew me away! I immediately related with Ellyn as a woman who felt unlovable and unattractive to men. She had a horrible inner voice that fueled her self-loathing. Sabina is a woman running, overwhelmed with a sense of guilt and unsure how to move forward. Twila is a young woman who identifies where she has gone wrong and yet still struggles moving forward. This story is filled with God moments, faith and spiritual growth that holds powerful messages for readers. We are all made in His Image for His divine purpose and we are greatly and fiercely loved! My heart broke for these women and I cheered as they made strives toward a brighter future. I highly, highly recommend Invisible.

Convergence: how does one fight back against terror?

Convergence by Ginny L Yttrup is a suspense thriller about one woman’s fight against her stalker and returning her life to normal. Dr. Denilyn Rossi is a psychology professor who once had it all. A loving marriage and a bestselling book until its all shattered by someone who was sending her gifts, hang up phone calls. Her marriage becomes shattered and her own mental health is left in a fragile state. After many years, she is still trying to get her life back and once she feels she has a handle on things, the stalker returns. Another woman enters the story, Adelia is traveling to Three Rivers, California to take a job as a rafting tour guide. The stories of these two women are told from different time points. As the journey of these two women converge, who is the person torturing Denilyn? Can she find him and fight him once and for all? How does Adelia play into the whole story?

I loved this book. It kept me guessing on how it was playing out and where it was going. When I finished the book and looked back on all the clues, the identity of the stalker was there all along and like a really good thriller, the author has skillfully hidden them in plain view. There isn’t much I can discuss about what I liked about the book because it would give away major plot points; however, I can say that, while the book starts off slow and you aren’t quite sure what’s going on as the book jumps back and forth in time, it all becomes clear as the book reaches it the final act. I highly recommend Convergence!

Home: a story of confronting the past to have a future

Home by Ginny L Yttrup is the story of Melanie and her husband, Craig. Melanie is a writer who is struggling with her next book with looming deadline fast approaching. Craig is a custom home builder who is struggling with their marriage and their lives. He has a beautiful client who makes him feel exciting and important in ways that have been lost with Melanie. Meanwhile, their best friend and next door neighbor, Jill, is in a deep struggle with memories which her mother claims never happened and the feeling as if she is losing her mind. With the help of a fellow writer, Valerie who is also a psychiatrist, Melanie and Jill face their demons and confront the truth they both have been running from. Will Craig give in to his desires? Will he walk away from his marriage? Will Melanie discover what is causing her writer’s block? Will she be able to finish this book on time? Will Jill figure out what is wrong? Will she truly lose her mind?

Home was a interesting book as there were three perspectives shown in the story. While Melanie and Craig were the main plotline, I enjoyed Jill’s story far better. It was much more interesting and gut wrenching as she learns the truth behind her “memories” and mental issues. I loved the insight into a writer’s writing methods. As a writer myself, I enjoyed seeing the rituals and patterns Melanie follows in order to write her story. I highly recommend Home for its drama and realistic portrayal of life’s struggles and the road back to a place of peace and contentment.
