Always: a love story

Always by Sarah Jio is the story of Kailey Crane who seems to have moved on after the love of her life disappeared from her life. Until one night, she stumbles across a homeless man who she is convinced is Cade. The narrative moves back and forth between the present of 2008 and the past and the events which led to Cade disappearance.

Kailey is a food reporter with the Seattle Herald and engaged to Ryan. Her life seems to be idyllic and happy. Until one rainy night, she sees a face which throws everything out of balance. She becomes obsessed with finding Cade and helping him regain his life. As Kailey investigates what happened to Cade, it becomes clear that he didn’t just leave and she wants to discover the truth. However, she is met with resistance from James, Cade’s best friend and former business partner, her best friend, Tracy and her fiancĂ©. Is the homeless man Cade? Will she be able to find out what happened to him?

Always is an amazing book. From the first page to the last word, the story grips the reader in as Kailey searches the streets for the man who believes is Cade. She must fight against prejudices against the homeless as well as her own ideas about what she wants in her life. I loved the flashbacks to the love story of Kailey and Cade and I cheered her on as she was determined to find out happened to Cade. I highly recommend Always. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll fall in love with a true love story.

Finding Libbie: you never really forget your first love

Finding Libbie by Deanna Lynn Sletten is the story of one woman’s discovery that her father was married before her mom. Through her grandmother’s tale, Emily Prentice learns the heartbreaking story of her father, Jack, and his high school sweetheart, Libbie. Elizabeth “Libbie” Wilkens is the daughter of the wealthy Wilkens family. They own half of the town of Jamison, Minnesota. Jack Prentice is the son of a farmer who works part time at his uncle’s gas station and dreams of owning his own mechanic shop. The two fall in love, despite her mother’s objections, and get married after high school. While their life together starts out idyllic, it soon sours as Libbie begins to experience wild mood swings and Jack is pushed from her life. Emily is heartbroken to hear about her father and Libbie. She’s determined to find out what happened to Libbie. Is Libbie still alive? Will Emily find her? Will her father want to revisit that painful part of his past?

Finding Love is a beautiful love story in which love wasn’t enough to keep Jack and Libbie together. Through social stigma, family reputations and misunderstanding of what was happened to Libbie, their life together is torn apart. Without giving too much away, I was angry about how Libbie was treated in her family. I was disgusted how some people looked down on Jack and his dreams. I cried at the end. I highly recommend Finding Libbie. You’ll relish in the love story and the hopes that true love will find each other again.

Figuring it out with Grace: a story of the search for true love

Figuring it Out with Grace by JD Tynan is the long search for true love. The story features Grace Gibbs, a psychology professor who is searching for her soul mate and goes through a series of men. Until one day she has had enough and searches for the one who got away.

Grace is 35 and single again. The story flashbacks and forth as the reader is introduced to Jared Moore, Grace’s childhood best friend and the one who got away. Grace takes the reader through growing up with her parents’ divorce, her mom’s revolving door romances and sexual awareness of Jared Moore. As she reminisces, she realizes what is wrong in her life and moves forward to change. Will she be able to find Jared? Will he forgive her? Will she ever find happiness with a family of her own?

I enjoyed Figuring it out with Grace. In many ways, I could related with Grace with her family history and trying to overcome the family cycles which has plagued her life. I enjoyed seeing her happy and laughed with her as all her dreams come true. I loved the building tension between Grace and Jared as they both fight against what they need to do and what they want to do. I really enjoyed Jared’s character. I also enjoyed Grace’s discovery that everything looks perfect from the outside but once you get a glimpse inside, you can see that everything is far from perfect. Figuring it out with Grace is a great story about one woman’s journey to find her soul mate.
