Obsidian Throne: the final chapter in the Lochlann Feud series

Obsidian Throne is the fourth and final book in the Lochlann Feud series by Robin D Mahle and Elle Madison. Picking up eight weeks after the end of Crimson Kingdom as Evander and Rowan prepare for their wedding in Bear and dealing with Iiro’s sudden succession to the Obsidian Throne. The war their marriage was supposed to stop seemed to bring the threat of another one. As Rowan learns the customs and rituals of her new home, an enemy waits in the shadows, biding their time to make a move. With secret alliances and spies around every corner, Rowan and Evander must figure out who they can trust, can they trust each other?

This series has been an exciting story of romance and intrigue. I enjoyed the Obsidian Throne immensely! From the opening chapter to the final epilogue, it was a story that kept me on the edge of my seat. Told between Rowan’s and Evander’s points of view, readers get a fast paced adventure of romance, political intrigue and battlefield strategy with lots of jaw dropping moments. I enjoyed the growth Evander had from his first introduction in the Scarlet Princess. I also enjoyed Rowan as she takes charge in order to help the war effort. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the Obsidian Throne. I highly recommend Obsidian Throne and the rest of the Lochlann Feud series.

Crimson Kingdom: as the threat of war grows, Rowan must choose a marriage alliance. Which man would she choose?

Crimson Kingdom is the third book in the Lochlann Feuds series by Robin D Mahle and Elle Madison. Rowan thought she had escaped as a prisoner when she stepped foot back in Lochlann. She thought being home would make everything better. However, even safe at home, she is haunted by the memories of Socair and everyone she left behind.  While the talk of war surrounds her, Rowan realizes that entering a marriage alliance is the only way to keep her kingdom safe and prevent another war. She doesn’t have a shortage of options as many marriage proposals flooded in from all over Socair. Only two options have her conflicted. Does she play it safe and choose the man who makes it obvious that he cares for her? Or does she choose the man who seems cool and uncaring and fuels a fire inside of her?

I have read through this series with eagerness. The first two books were gripping and exciting. I took the chance to read Crimson Kingdom soon after finishing Tarnished Crown. While this story was good, Crimson Kingdom was not as exciting as the first two books. The story was bogged down by the negotiation talks. However, I enjoyed finally seeing Rowan with her family and their interactions. Who she would choose kept me guessing and was shocked and not so surprised at the same time with her choice. There were great emotional moments and fun banter. The story does end on a cliffhanger as the first two books did. Overall, I did enjoy this story and I am looking forward to the rest of the series and a resolution to the feud. If you enjoy the fantasy genre, I recommend Crimson Kingdom and the entire Lochlann Feud series.

Tarnished Crown: a blood debt, a hidden enemy and a love triangle

Tarnished Crown is the second book in the Lochlann Feuds by Robin D Mahle and Elle Madison. Rowan felt she was finally doing something right. Marry Theo from Clan Elk for love and keep her kingdom safe. Until Evander, from Clan Bear and the most feared man in Socair, claims a blood debt under an archaic law to enslave her. When she arrives at the Clan Bear fortress, she finds more enemies in unexpected places and being Evander’s property is the only thing protecting her. Rowan learns she has allies in unexpected places and she finds herself caught between duty and her heart. When the opportunity comes to leave, she hesitates. Does she follow her heart and marry Theo? Or does fulfilling her blood debt even if it means she loses Theo forever?

Tarnished Crown picks up immediately after the ending of Scarlet Princess as Rowan and Evander are on the road to the Clan Bear estate. The banter between Rowan and Evander was fun and intriguing. I loved the cat and mouse aspect of their relationship. I usually don’t like love triangles; however, the one involving Rowan, Theo and Evander added to the drama and mystery. In Scarlet Princess, Evander is the villain, the one to throw the monkey wrench into Rowan and Theo’s story; however, in Tarnished Crown, there was a deeper look into Evander’s character and I enjoyed it. And the hidden enemy was a great reveal that left my jaw on the floor. I am loving this series and I can’t wait to dive into the next book. I highly, highly recommend Tarnished Crown.

Scarlet Princess: a medieval enemies-to-lovers romance with drama and witty banter

Scarlet Princess is the first book in the Lochlann Feuds series by Robin D. Mahle and Elle Madison. Rowan, princess of the Lochlann Kingdom only wanted adventures, she never meant to start a war. When she and her cousin attempt to smuggle vodka from Socair, an enemy kingdom, she finds herself at the mercy of the very people she has been taught to hate. Her only ally seems to be Lord Theodore, the brother of the Duke of Clan Elk, who is not the barbarian she expected. Now she must face The Summit, the gathering of the other clans, to decide what to do about her crime. Rowan knows she must find a way to smooth things over without causing another war, especially now that she and Theo have gotten close. Can her mistake cost her everything and bring war to their two kingdoms?

Scarlet Princess sat on my To-Be-Read list for three years and I am so sorry that I waited so long. From the open chapter to the closing pages, with a medieval setting with a bit of supernatural magical abilities, I was hooked!! The world building was great. I loved Rowan and Theo. Their banter was great and their romance was sweet and steamy. While there are no spicy scenes, it is a great enemies-to-lovers romance with forced proximity. Even the side characters were intriguing. The story does end with a bit of a cliffhanger, and usually a cliffhanger would upset me; however, I was so invested in Rowan and Theo’s story that I immediately got the second book and will be reading it soon. There is drama and laughs. If you enjoy an enemies-to-lovers romance with a medieval supernatural twist, I highly recommend Scarlet Princess.
